A Thanksgiving Door Hanger for the Cardi B Fan

2020 Needs a Sense of Humor – DIY Edition

A year or so back, my best friend and I attended a craft night where you got to pick a wooden project to complete. They let us pick our stain, stencils etc. It was so much fun! We decided to have our own craft night on a Saturday night to recreate a funny Thanksgiving saying that has been floating around ever since Cardi B and Meg the Stallion dropped WAP.

Steps to Complete Your Simple and Easy DIY

The wooden door hangers come in natural wood from the hardware store. We pre stained the wooden door hangers so that it gave them time to dry. Depending on your style and preference, you can use any color of stain. We went with a dark wood stain that we had on hand.

Next we used painters tape to map out the area that we wanted to paint white. This was going to be our base for the the vinyl text and SVG, so we made sure we made enough room to fit everything inside the white space. We should have used mod podge before painting the wood, but we didn’t, so after peeling up the tape we had to touch it up.

With the measurement of the white space, we created the text in Cricut Design space using the font, the Skinny bold. Again, we suffered because we didn’t use mod podge, so don’t make our mistake. We placed most of the letters by hand. If you used mod podge, the letters should lift from your transfer tape.

Next, we built our cute little turkeys. We went with a burnt red, light brown, yellow and orange to go with the Thanksgiving theme. After this was down we went over the text and the turkey with mod podge to seal it.

Last, we got to decorate. We hot glued the floral stems and leaves at the top of the wooden door hanger. On top we made large bows. Another mistake – hot glue is hot apparently. Be smarter than us and don’t burn your finger prints off. Use either wire or a pipe cleaner to secure the bow. You will need to use quite a bit of glue to secure the embellishments to the top.
