Finding faith and inspiration during this election season and how you can calm your election anxiety.

I’ve been preparing for this year’s election for quite some time. It sounds silly but voting and placing people in positions of power is one of the most important decisions we get to make in our lifetime. I know some people don’t understand the power of their vote. Some don’t think their vote matters and others wish they had the opportunity.

I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to vote in every election since 2008. I remember turning 18 on November 2nd, and getting in line on the 4th feeling so powerful. I’ve never felt less than powerful since then. With power comes great responsibility. We must truly look within ourselves and make a decision that we can stand by going forward. We also must not consume ourselves with the political banter and fighting that ensues over candidates.

I am not perfect, far from it. I have friends that vote differently than I do and we are able to coexist. Sometimes it is difficult, especially in today’s polarized climate. The amount of people who have reached out to me on social media, outside of the United States, concerned and glued to this election has taken my breath away. I am grateful for the prayers and positive vibrations.

Truly, I am working hard to genuinely be okay with whatever outcome of this year’s election. I have been focusing on that. I have been focusing on being faithful during 2020 hoping that I can exile any type of fear that tries to sneak in. Just like 2016, I have been glued to media outlets. However, I know that this election does not define who I am and the blessings that Jesus has in store for us.

When I went to bed last night, I was at peace, polar opposite of how I felt in 2016. I pray that I can continue to grow in my faith and give my daughter the same foundation. I want her to see how blessed she is and how the world is in her fingertips.

Last night on Instagram, I spoke about my pastor’s message on Sunday and how it hit home. I am going to link to it here. Please give it a listen! Growing up Catholic, the Lords Prayer was something I could recite forwards and backwards, so much so that I forgot it’s power. But when he recited a portion of the Lord’s Prayer, it felt like perfect timing. A god wink if you will.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed by thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
